Since first reading Kirk Tuck's post about his anti-workshop that actually went down this past Sat, I've been thinking about putting together a similar idea here in Boston. Fast forward a few weeks and local photog Rich Beaubien organized a small all night shoot through New York City.
Suddenly I had an idea. What if we combined the best of both ideas. What if we organized a 24hr photo marathon that didn't just push the photographic and artistic boundaries, but also showed you other parts of the city you might pass by without another look. While I think it's a great idea, it may have to wait till spring, it's getting cold and my weekends are quickly booking up. That said, there's no reason why we can't spend an entire day shooting.
Here's the plan (which is still open). We'll meet at the Butterfly Cafe at Roxbury Crossing at 8 for a quick breakfast and chat about art, photography and life. From there we'll move on down through my neck of the woods in Fort Hill and then back through Roxbury Crossing and on to Mission Hill. A quick walk down Huntington will lead us to the MFA where we can spend a few hours enjoying the masters of the past (and even present) and enjoy some art that isn't just photography.
Here we can hop on the Green Line (or walk) and move on up toward Symphony Hall and then into the South End. We'll find a quick sandwich or something and move up to the SoWa Open Market. Crossing under 93 we'll be heading through Southie and heading up toward the Seaport District. We'll stop at the ICA for another immersion of great artists and close the place up. After they kick us out, we'll walk along the harbor for sunset and probably find a nice place to grab dinner, drinks and chat some more to close out the night.
As of right now I'm planning on the 3rd of October, but I'm open for other dates. Post up in the comments if you're in and if you have any other ideas for spots to visit.
Jimmy
